Description
W.O. Mitchell’s Jake and the Kid Adapted by Conni Massing Directed by Glenda Stirling APRIL 27-MAY 15, 2011 It’s been a long, hot, dry season for the Canadian prairies, and the good people of Crocus are spending a lot of time looking anxiously at the clear, blue sky. The Kid isn’t worried, though. His parents’ hired hand, Jake, knows how to make it rain. Jake said so himself. And now that word has gotten out about his special skill, Jake is busy building the rainmaking machine that’s going to save Crocus. As rainmaking day draws near, the prairie sky remains bright and cloudless. The Kid can’t understand why the townspeople don’t believe that Jake can make it rain. He also can’t understand why Jake himself is beginning to look a little worried… Adapted from W.O. Mitchell’s classic short stories, Jake and the Kid is a warm-hearted and humorous tribute to life on the Prairies. The friendship between hired hand, Jake, and the Kid, a young farm boy whose father is fighting overseas, is one of the most unforgettable relationships in Canadian literature.

Description
BLINK BLINK BLINK Created and performed by Kirsten Marie Rasmussen MAY 5 – 14 | 2011 As the motivational speaker assumes the podium, you instinctively straighten up, your hands smarting from the force of your applause. You’ve been looking forward to this for months.

You paid handsomely for this front-row seat, but you know it will be worth it. You need it to be worth it. She is your favourite self-help guru, your most voraciously read new-age author, your idol of enlightenment, your answer to every question. You can’t believe she’s right there in front of you. What you don’t know is: She can’t believe it either. Your hero’s carefully prepared remarks are about to go out the window. And after tonight, neither one of you is going to be the same. After extensive improv, clown and comedy work in Edmonton and Montreal, Saskatchewan-born Kirsten Marie Rasmussen is finally coming home to deliver a darkly hilarious look at the burgeoning self-help industry. Yet Blink Blink Blink is more than skeptical satire: it is an open-hearted exploration of the many selves that wrestle for supremacy in all of us. Grab your front-row seat for this entertaining and thought-provoking evening of comedy.
